Show Preview Exhibition at Dzochen Beara Spiritual
Care Centre, Garranes near Castletownbere, West Cork, took
place on Sunday 17th August, 7.00 to 9.30 p.m.. This was a one evening
preview of most of the work for the 'Floating World' exhibition
at the Taylor Galleries Dublin, in September. The night was a HUGE
success with 250 people attending and €1800 being raised for
the Care Centre.
It
was an opportunity for local people to see this state of the art
facility before it is populated. It will cater for the needs of
people with terminal illness and their families. See below: |

INTRODUCTION
to 'FLOATING WORLD' catalogue
The 'Floating World' paintings are visual variations on the theme
of transparency, as in the nature of the world we see as real. In
fact this reality forms and dissolves ceaselessly and any depiction
of it is a snapshot of a time bound appearance. Thus any image could
be deemed to be an image of this floating world. In these few pictures
I have played around with trying to make equivalencies for the sensing
of this outward instability; for the quiet joy that arises by itself
when personhood fades (transparency) and the so often ignored 'background'
is seen to be shining through the 10,000 things (as The Tao Te Ching
describes The Creation).
Concomitantly the 'Songs of Silence' works were being painted, triggered
by the quartz seams in rock that could be likened to some zany musical
notation for nature spirits, if they were to exist. Again, despite
the apparent solidity of these ancient formations, they live, 'breathe'
and mutate while playing their frozen music.
Inevitably the pictures galloped off in their own directions as
well, so it would be more accurate to say these are images produced
by the artist's basic approach of 'see and play'.

NATIONAL
GALLERY, DUBLIN
'Revelation'
9 APRIL - 28
SEPTEMBER 2008
Now
open in the Print Gallery this spring is Revelation - an exciting
collaboration with the Graphic Studio Dublin. The show consists
of specially commissioned prints based around the theme of revelation,
many of which have been inspired by the Gallery's extensive collection
of Irish
and European art. Revelation - 'to make known something hidden'
- can refer to religious faith, intellectual discovery and aspects
of science and nature. In dealing with the profound concept of
revelation, many of the prints embrace the traditional religious
concept of revelation, whilst others focus on the philosophical
or secular dimensions of the topic. The exhibition features 29
artists representing Graphic Studio printmakers and invited artists
include Tim Goulding, Pamela Leonard, Yoko Akino, Stephen Lawlor,
Jean Bardon, William Crozier, Guggi, John Kindness, Donald Teskey
and Nigel Rolfe. An accompanying illustrated catalogue, edited
by Anne Hodge, curator of the exhibition, will includes texts
by the artists and an essay by Mark Patrick Hederman,
a Benedictine monk and philosopher, who has written extensively
on art and culture.
Organised
in collaboration with Graphic Studio Dublin
Print Gallery. Admission free.
